The South Slave Divisional Education Council (SSDEC) is the regional school board made up of one representative from each of the five community-based District Education Authorities (DEAs) of Fort Resolution, Fort Smith, Hay River, K'atlodeeche First Nation, and Lutsel K'e. The mandate of the Council is to provide for the educational needs of South Slave students in kindergarten through grade 12. The Council's mission statement is: The South Slave Divisional Education Council strives to prepare students to create their futures!

Programs, Products or Services:

The SSDEC provides a high quality, student-focused education to approximately 1600 students in 8 schools. The Council's current priorities are three-fold:
1) Literacy: To improve success in reading;

3) Social Responsibility: To increase understanding and practice of socially responsible behaviour by all members of the school community.
The Council's regional office works to support the District Education Authorities (DEAs) and schools to provide the highest quality K-12 education possible. Our highly effective senior leadership, program coordinators, and school administration teams provide direction, coordination, and support to our schools in the areas of human resources, curriculum and programs, student support, policy development, school improvement planning, finance, and communications. The Council also utilizes staff members as workshop facilitators to share their expertise in areas of public communication, leadership, evaluation, to name a few.
